Week 10 | w/c March 8th 2021

Weekly Overview

Warmer temperatures are expected for all regions alongside more rainfall and increased Growth Potential. High Turf Stress is expected for a few regions and seed germination conditions are on the up. Could this be the start of spring and the growing season?

Average Maximum & Minimum Temperatures

Last 10 days

Weather

The next 10 days can expect warmer high's and warmer low's across the UK. Could this be the start of the growing season where it continues to get warmer? The average maximum temperatures are expected to be between 6-9 °C with average minimum temperatures expected to be between 3-5 °C.

Growth Potential

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

Growth potential is expected to increase by about 10-15% per region. As we move closer to the official start of spring where temperatures are expected to rise, it’s important to ensure your turf has the required macro and micro nutrients for the steady growth.

Now is a good time to apply a granular fertiliser such as Ferro Top®6-0-12(+6MgO+8Fe). The perfect combination of nitrogen sources take full advantage of the cooler weather and Ferro Top® provides the perfect amount of K plus Fe, Mg and S which are all required to promote strong healthy turf, photosynthesis and discourage moss.

Base Nitrogen

Last 10 days

Weather

All but one region are now displaying 1 kg/N/ha Base nitrogen requirement (numbers inside the circles). This is an encouraging sign that could highlight that more N will be required as the weeks go on to match the requirements of turf growth.

It's always important to match the turf requirements for nitrogen as applying too little or too much can both have detrimental effects on turf health & performance and also increase disease occurrence, especially during this time of year.

Depending on your grass species and soil type, base nitrogen requirements may be more or less than the weather estimated figures.

Application Advice

Using PrecisionPro will help you calibrate your spreader and fertiliser correctly and also ensure correct walking speed is achieved. When applying any type of granular product it's important to keep a consistent spread width, therefore reducing missed or overlapped areas for a perfectly treated surface.

Rainfall

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

More rainfall is expected for all regions across the UK compared to the last 10 days. The most rainfall is expected on the west side with the least amount expected in the south / south-east.

Turf Stress

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

The next 10 days is showing High Turf Stress for regions highlighted with Red Circles, while all regions can expect Medium Turf Stress and East Scotland expecting Low Turf Stress. For extra leaf protection, TurfRx Si which also contains calcium, will help turf become less susceptible to invasive fungal diseases and insects while also standing up the plant for a cleaner cut.

The use of other products to help protect the plant such as Green Lawnger TR and Dew Dispersants will help reduce leaf moisture, help prevent disease and improve surface playability. The pigment technology in Green Lawnger TR will also help increase the turf canopy temperature, protect the crown from frost damage and accelerate thawing of snow and ice.

Delivering the correct macro and micronutrients during specific turf conditions is key to keeping your turf healthy and resilient to disease pressures and stress.

Weather

As the weather improves, we expect this map to change dramatically over the next 10 days as of today, PGR applications of both Attraxor® and Primo Maxx II® are not advised. We will continue to monitor the conditions as it's important to time applications of Attraxor® inline with the "boot" stage of the poa annua plan, further preventing poa pioneering.
