Week 3 | w/c January 18th 2021

Weekly Overview

A clear north / south divide can be expected for the next 10 days. From the north of england northwards will see a decrease in temperatures and growth potential but will experience low turf stress. Whereas all regions south from the north of england can expect increased temperatures and growth potential while also experiencing medium turf stress.

Average Maximum & Minimum Temperatures

Weather

Average maximum temperatures are expected to be between 1-9 °C for the UK over the next 10 days.

Average minimum temperatures are expected to be between -2-5 °C across the UK.

Growth Potential

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

From the north of England southwards, Growth Potential has increased compared to last week, pushing into the upper end of the Low Growth Potential zone. The UK can continue to expect to be in the Low Growth Potential zone (highlighted by the red circles), meaning turf will require different management practices maximising turf health and performance.

At this time of year, turf requires all the help it can get to maximise growth and strength. Maximising photosynthesis and chlorophyll can be achieved by applying products containing potassium and magnesium such as Ferro Top®.

Base Nitrogen

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

Base nitrogen requirements (numbers inside the circles) are expected to be zero for most of the UK over the next 10, however, a few regions do show 1 kg/N. Nitrogen source such as Ammonium is more suited to this time of year and low growth potential.

It's always important to match the turf requirements for nitrogen as applying too little or too much can both have detrimental effects on turf health & performance and also increase disease occurrence, especially during this time of year.

Depending on your grass species and soil type, base nitrogen requirements may be more or less than the weather estimated figures.

Application Advice

Using PrecisionPro will help you calibrate your spreader and fertiliser correctly and also ensure correct walking speed is achieved. When applying any type of granular product it's important to keep a consistent spread width, therefore reducing missed or overlapped areas for a perfectly treated surface.

Rainfall

Last 10 days

Weather

Expect more rainfall for most regions across the UK with a maximum amount of 133 mm for South Wales and minimum amount of 23 mm for East Anglia.

Turf Stress

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

All regions from Yorkshire south-wards can expect to be in the Medium Stress zone, whereas regions north-wards of Yorkshire can expect to be in the Low Stress zone.

Products to help protect the plant such as Green Lawnger TR and Dew Dispersants will help reduce leaf moisture, help prevent disease and improve surface playability. The pigment technology in Green Lawnger TR will also help increase the turf canopy temperature and protect the crown from frost damage. Delivering the correct nutrients and micronutrients during specific turf conditions is key to keeping your turf healthy and resilient to disease pressures and stress. During this period, our Defence Tank-mix will help to strengthen your turf and protect against the onset of disease outbreaks.
