Week 43 | w/c October 19th 2020

Stressful times ahead.

Weather conditions for the UK have taken an unexpected turn, warmer with more some regions now back into the High Growth Potential zone. However, given the rapid change in conditions combined with expected rainfall most regions will experience high levels of turf stress. This is the perfect time for disease to attack so keep an eye on things.

Average Maximum & Minimum Temperatures

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

Average maximum temperatures are expected to increase by 1°C - 2°C, most notably in the more southern regions.

Average minimum temperatures are also expected to increase by 1°C - 3°C.

Growth Potential & BaseN

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

The more southern regions can expect High Growth Potential (green coloured circles) conditions for the next 10 days whereas the rest of the UK will continue to be in the Medium Growth Potential, meaning a different source of nitrogen will be required to maximise turf health and performance inline with weather conditions for both GP zones.

Base nitrogen requirements are expected to double over the next 10 days. It's always important to match the turf requirements for nitrogen as applying too little or too much can both have detrimental effects on turf health & performance and also increase disease occurrence.

Depending on your grass species and soil type, base nitrogen requirements may be more or less than the weather estimated figures.

Application Advice

Using PrecisionPro will help you calibrate your spreader and fertiliser correctly and also ensure correct walking speed is achieved. When applying any type of granular product it's important to keep a consistent spread width, therefore reducing missed or overlapped areas for a perfectly treated surface.

Rainfall

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

More rainfall is expected for the next 10 days compared to the last 10 days. The western side of the UK can expect the most rainfall with over 100mm expected for some regions.

Turf Stress

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

The next 10 days can expect most regions to experience High Stress conditions. (highlighted by red circles). This means that even greater fluctuations in growth potential is expected causing this High Stress to occur. During this High Stress period, disease will be rampant so be on the lookout for any outbreaks of Microdochium patch (fusarium), alternatively applying a preventative fungicide would be perfect right now such as Insignia.

Delivering the correct nutrients and micronutrients during specific turf conditions is key to keeping your turf healthy and resilient to disease pressures and stress. To compliment all types of turf stress conditions we have developed unique tank mixes called Turf Health Packages.

PGR's & GDD's

Weather

The next 10 days show a completely different outlook compared to the last 10 days. All regions can apply either Attraxor or Primo Maxx II, however those regions in the 'Get ready to stop / start' zone (gold circle tick icons) should proceed with caution as conditions may instantly change over the next 2 weeks.

If applying Attraxor, remember applications can be applied no sooner than 21 days. The active ingredient prohexadione is quickly taken by Poa and suppresses turf, preventing poa pioneering. It's important to apply Attraxor as late as possible for optimum POA control in preparation for next year.

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

The next 10 days can expect an increase in accumulated growing degree days for all regions in the UK with between 8-20 GDD difference compared to the last 10 days. PRIMO MAXX II programs should therefore be applied earlier than the previous application.

It’s important to monitor GDD and adjust your applications accordingly to ensure optimum product performance.

Poa Seedhead Emergence

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

Poa is back for the more southern regions, slowly decreasing the more north you go. This maybe the last little burst from Poa before deeply heading into the winter.

Attraxor or Primo MAXX II programs will reduce seed head activity while operations such as verti-cutting and grooming will also help to remove existing seed heads.

Seed Germination Days

Our over seeding weather data helps you apply the right seed at the right time, maximising germination and ensuring optimum establishment. Using our amenity weather data, we can highlight the amount of base germination and optimum germination days are occurring over the next 10 days.

Bent

Last 10 days

Weather

Base Germination is mainly expected for the UK over the next 10 days.

Remember it's important to ensure correct seed to soil contact for each type of seed.

Fescue

Next 10 days

Last 10 Days

Weather

The next 10 days can expect most of the UK to experience mainly Base Germination days. However, some southern regions are displaying a few Optimum Germinations days which should be taken advantage of if possible.

Always ensure correct seedbed preparation for optimum soil to seed contact.

Rye

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

Seed germination days for Rye over the next 10 days have flipped compared to the last 10 days. Most regions can expect more Optimum Germination days than Base Germination to take place making it a perfect time to sow some Rye.

Always ensure correct seedbed preparation for optimum soil to seed contact.
