Week 7 | w/c February 15th 2021

Weekly Overview

Expect warmer weather with increased growth potential and rainfall for all regions. Turf stress has increased in some regions and turf is now requiring nitrogen inputs.

Average Maximum & Minimum Temperatures

Last 10 days

Weather

The next 10 days will see a massive increase in both average maximum and minimum temperatures with most regions set to experience double figures. The average maximum temperatures are expected to be between 8-11 °C with average minimum temperatures expected to be between 4-8 °C.

Growth Potential

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

A big difference in growth potential for the UK compared to the last 10 days. Regions highlighted by the gold circles indicate that growth potential is above 50% meaning turf is growing and will require different management practices maximising turf health and performance.

Given the rapid change in weather conditions, now is a good time to take advantage by applying a granular fertiliser such as Ferro Top®6-0-12(+6MgO+8Fe). The perfect combination of nitrogen sources take full advantage of the cooler weather and Ferro Top® provides the perfect amount of K plus Fe, Mg and S which are all required to promote strong healthy turf & photosynthesis.

Base Nitrogen

Last 10 days

Weather

Base nitrogen requirements (numbers inside the circles) are now required for all regions in the UK. Expect around 1-2 kg/N/ha for the northern regions, and around 2-3 kg/N/ha for the more southern regions.

It's always important to match the turf requirements for nitrogen as applying too little or too much can both have detrimental effects on turf health & performance and also increase disease occurrence, especially during this time of year.

Depending on your grass species and soil type, base nitrogen requirements may be more or less than the weather estimated figures.

Application Advice

Using PrecisionPro will help you calibrate your spreader and fertiliser correctly and also ensure correct walking speed is achieved. When applying any type of granular product it's important to keep a consistent spread width, therefore reducing missed or overlapped areas for a perfectly treated surface.

Rainfall

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

All regions across the UK can expect more rainfall than the last 10 days. South Wales can expect the most with an expected 92 mm while Yorkshire should expect the least amount of rainfall with 9 mm forecast.

Turf Stress

Next 10 days

Last 10 days

Weather

The next 10 days show increased turf stress for regions highlighted with gold circles. As the weather turns increasingly warmer over the next 10 days extra leaf protection in the form of TurfRx Si which also contains calcium will help turf become less susceptible to invasive fungal diseases and insects while also standing up the plant for a cleaner cut.

The use of other products to help protect the plant such as Green Lawnger TR and Dew Dispersants will help reduce leaf moisture, help prevent disease and improve surface playability. The pigment technology in Green Lawnger TR will also help increase the turf canopy temperature, protect the crown from frost damage and accelerate thawing of snow and ice.

Delivering the correct nutrients and micronutrients during specific turf conditions is key to keeping your turf healthy and resilient to disease pressures and stress.

The rapid change in weather conditions has started to highlight regions to Get Ready to Start applying Attraxor® and also a few regions for Primo Maxx II®. Could this be the start of the growing season? Until we see consecutive weeks of increased weather conditions and the Kinder-Parry model starts to display green tick icons meaning Apply, we will hold our breath for now.

Weather

Now could be a great time to take advantage of overseeding with fescue and the majority of regions are dominated by Base Germination days.

Always ensure correct seedbed preparation for optimum soil to seed contact.
